Costa Mesa, CA - (Apr16, 2003) - Today, Softech & Associates launched their new web site based on an in-house tool. " Like many of our customers, we realize that today's fast-paced world, requires that we keep our customers up-to-date in a more efficient manner", said David Nguyen, President of Softech & Associates . "The traditional paper and phone -based way of communication is inefficient and prone to errors. Given we do business in 3 different countries, we needed to find a better way of communicating with our customers and partners".
Softech's consultant reviewed several web content management tools and found many of them to be relatively complex to use and costly to maintain based on their needs. "The 80-20 rule clearly applied here", said David Nguyen. "Our needs could be met with a much simpler tool than what many vendors offered. We also recognized the market opportunity. Many organizations have a few content contributors and do not require complex review and approval cycles. This group of customers have not done much with their web sites, primarily because either they cannot afford a web content management system or do not have the in-house resources needed for maintaining the system.
Softech's offshore team developed the content management tool in approximately 3 months. It took less than a month to complete the construction of the site. The web based tool offers ease-of-use and comprehensive out-of-the-box functionality for creating new pages and updating the associated content. It includes a WYSIWYG web editor (similar to MS word) that provides content entry and editing capabilities. While the tool comes with several predefined templates for creating web pages, it's very easy to add new page templates. Site navigation and pages are created dynamically allowing content to be separated from the presentation. Multi-level navigation was also added to make sure customers can manage a top-down design as the site grows in complexity.
For the balance of the year, Softech plans to make this tool available to it's customers free of charge. "We still see a large group of customers out there that have light weight requirements similar to us and don't have the resources to develop a full-blown Web Content Management system", Nguyen says. Softech estimates that a candidate web site with few hundred pages, can be constructed in less than sixty days using this tool. Softech plans to offer a Quick-Start package in late June to help interested customers get the tool up and running in less than 3 weeks. Customers can choose to have the site hosted in-house or outsourced.
